Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Manali and Stay

Arrive in Manali early in the morning.
Since Manali is at a lower altitude compared to your next destination, Kaza, it's crucial to use this day for acclimatization.
Spend the day exploring the picturesque town of Manali.
Visit the Hidimba Temple, renowned for its unique architecture and tranquil surroundings.
Take a leisurely stroll along Mall Road, where you can shop for local handicrafts, and soak in the town's vibrant atmosphere.
Use the evening to relax and prepare for the next day's journey to Kaza.
Early rest will help you adjust to the altitude and prepare for the trek ahead.

Day 2: Manali to Kaza

Begin your journey to Kaza early in the morning.
Prepare for a challenging drive as the road is rugged and rough, with bumpy and uneven stretches.
The drive offers breathtaking vistas of the Spiti Valley.
The dramatic landscapes, with stark mountains and deep valleys, look like scenes straight out of a postcard.
After approximately 10 hours of driving, you will reach Kaza, the administrative center of Spiti Valley.
Upon arrival, check into your accommodation in Kaza.
Use the evening to acclimatize to the high altitude and rest.
Spend the night in Kaza.

Day 3: Kaza to Kibber

After breakfast, embark on a short road drive from Kaza to Kibber, the last roadhead for your trek.
The key attraction here is the Key Monastery, an important Tibetan Buddhist monastery.
You can also explore the monastery’s manuscripts and learn about its historical and spiritual significance.
To aid in acclimatization, embark on a short walk to gain some altitude.
Spend the evening soaking in the peaceful yet harsh surroundings of Kibber.
Take this time to unwind and appreciate the unique beauty of the Spiti Valley.
Ensure you get a good night's sleep.

Day 4: Rest and acclimatization

As you are already at a high altitude, acclimatization is crucial for your success on the Kanamo Peak trek.
Today, we will undertake an acclimatization walk lasting approximately 2-3 hours.
This walk is designed to gradually increase your altitude exposure while allowing you to return to the guest house afterward.
After the walk, enjoy the evening in Kibber.
Use this time to relax, reflect, and appreciate the tranquil environment.
Have a good night’s sleep, which is essential as the trek begins tomorrow.

Day 5: Kibber to Kanamo Base Camp

After breakfast and a trek briefing, we will commence our journey towards the base camp.
The initial part of the trek involves a steady climb, which will gradually transition into a flatter section with some further gradual ascent towards the end.
Along the way, we will pass by two picturesque lakes, one of these lakes supplies water to Kaza village.
Reach the base camp by early afternoon.
The campsite will provide a chance to rest and prepare for further acclimatization.
In the late afternoon, we will undertake a short acclimatization walk.
Have dinner, and retire to your camp early for a good night’s sleep.

Day 6: Kanamo Base Camp to Kanamo Summit Camp

Today, we will begin our trek to the summit camp.
The summit camp will be situated at the base of the second shoulder, on the route towards the Kanamo Peak summit.
The trek involves crossing the first shoulder, which will take approximately 3-4 hours.
Following this, we will continue on flatter terrain for an additional 1-2 hours to reach the second shoulder.
Be prepared for steep and challenging terrain, particularly the scree and snow sections.
Reach your campsite at the Kanamo Peak Summit Camp by late evening.
Dinner tonight will be very light to ensure that you are ready for the early start the next morning.

Day 7: Kanamo Summit Camp to Kanamo Peak Summit and back to Base Camp

Wake up at 3:00 AM and prepare for the summit attempt.
After a quick breakfast, begin your ascent by 4:00 AM.
The first part of the climb involves a very steep incline, which will take approximately 3 hours to complete.
Once you conquer the first incline, you'll be rewarded with spectacular views, including multiple peaks on the eastern side, such as Shila Peak, the twin of Kanamo Peak.
Continue your climb for another 3 hours to reach the last ridge of Kanamo Peak.
Reaching the summit is a profound accomplishment. The view from the top is truly rare and extraordinary.
From here, you can see the Pin Parvati Pass and Parang La, and the entire range of the Kinnaur region.
Take time to absorb the awe-inspiring panorama and the sense of achievement.
After savoring the summit views, begin your descent back to the base camp.
Overnight stay at the base camp.

Day 8: Base Camp to Kaza

After breakfast, begin your trek back to Kibber.
Upon reaching Kibber, take time to rest and recover.
From here, embark on the drive back to Kaza.
Arrive in Kaza and check into your accommodation.
Use the evening to unwind and reflect on the trek.
Enjoy a well-deserved rest as tomorrow marks the end of your Kanamo Peak adventure.

Day 9: Kaza to Manali

Start your drive from Kaza to Manali early in the morning.
The drive will retrace the route you took earlier, offering more opportunities to appreciate the dramatic landscapes of the Spiti Valley and the rugged terrain of the road.
Expect to arrive in Manali by the evening.
The journey will be long and tiring, but the scenic beauty along the way provides a fitting end to your trek.
Upon reaching Manali, your adventure concludes.
